Every kid remembers watching TV, from Saturday mornings waking up and watching shows, to trying to watch at least one episode before having to go to school. But when those shows ended, what happened to all of the kid actors from the shows we all remember?
iCarly became the most popular TV show at the time due to its relatable characters. It featured Spencer, Carly's older brother who always made some weird new art project, to Sam and Freddy, Carly’s best friends and co-stars, to Carly herself, the star of their internet show. According to Digital Spy, iCarly even broke a record in 2010 for having over 11 million people watching. So, what happened to the show
’s beloved stars? As many may know by now, iCarly will be coming back, this time however without Jennette McCurdy who portrayed Sam. According to Deadline, Jennette McCurdy does not want to return due to the embarrassing roles she played, even saying “My mom put me in it when I was 6 and by sort of age, I guess, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. My family didn’t have a lot of money, and this was the way out, which I actually think was helpful in driving me to some degree of success.” While the full cast won’t be there, the new reboot of iCarly still has people excited and waiting for the official release of the first season.
The Suite Life of Zach and Cody starred popular child actors Dylan and Cole Sprouse,. But after the show, Dylan Sprouse did not go on to do much more. He did have minor roles in recent movies such as After and After We Collided. Cole Sprouse, however, continued to do more work, being the main character in the show Riverdale and starring in the film 5 Feet Apart not long ago. Phill Lewis played another main character, Mr. Mosbey, and did not star in anything after the show when news broke about him killing a 21-year-old woman while drunk driving according to Maryland-Defense-Attorneys.
Victorious, starring Victoria Justice, Ariana Grande, Elizabeth Gillies, Danielle Monet, Avan Jogia, Leon Thomas III, and Matt Bennet, kicked off many of its stars’ careers. Everyone knows Ariana Grande, a huge pop singer who got her start playing Cat on Nickelodeon. The other actors, while not turning out to be major pop stars, did still go on to have careers. Matt Bennett, while doing some acting, also sings with Ariana Grande on occasion, even appearing in her music video Thank You, Next. The rest of the cast went on to play many other minor roles in TV shows and movies, still being best known for their roles in Victorious.
Wizards of Waverly Place; this successful show starred Selena Gomez, who played Alex, David Henrie, who played Justin, and Jake T. Austin, who played Max. Selena Gomez went on to be a successful pop star, while still acting in some minor roles. However, according to US Magazine, Selena Gomez may be planning on ending her singing career as she feels her music does not impact people the same way it used to, but that does not mean her acting career will end. The star says she may go back to acting in the future. David Henrie did not continue to act much more, but he did take up directing. Henrie released a new movie in 2020 called This is The Year that he didn’t just direct but also acted in. Selena Gomez even helped in the making of this film by co-producing it. Jake T. Austin however, while still playing in minor roles today, has stayed out of the spotlight.
As we grow up, we grow out of the shows we used to watch. Our sense of humor changes, and we don’t find the same jokes funny anymore. While TV shows like these may not be targeted towards us anymore, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy childhood favorites. These shows can easily be found on many streaming services such as Netflix and Disney Plus.
