Mr. Patriot

On Saturday, April 30th, Mr. Patriot returned to AFHS, with this year’s round of Senior contestants showing up in style to dazzle the judges. Each participated in seven rounds of fun-filled talent competitions, including a group dance, a question and answer round, and of course, the highly anticipated skills showcase.

Kyle Sclafani started off the talent competition by singing “Play it Again” by Luke Bryan, with the act featuring Mr. Wight chauffeuring him around the stage in a golf cart. Then Patrick Sams performed a card trick on Mayor Gilbert, visibly stupefying him. Subsequently, Dane Dompier dramatically created the perfect peanut butter sandwich to gripping instrumental music, and Colby Roach impersonated Elton John by playing the piano and singing “I’m Still Standing” in a fabulously eccentric costume complete with holographic platform boots.

After Roach came another hilarious impersonation, this time of Nick Willets taking on the role of Mr. Wight himself. Then Dustin Veach surprised the audience by playing “Tequila” on the performance of “Treasure” by Bruno Mars, with some of the other contestants backing him up with air guitars. Colin Cleary delivered a truly show-stopping saxophone. Sam Gregg followed up with a charming dance battle against Coach Fronk, Coach Wiley, and Coach O’Shea. Avin Patel wrapped up the spectacle with an awesome piccolo performance.

In the end, Patrick Sams won the title of Mr. Patriot. He also presented Mr. Wight with a special award as the ultimate Mr. Patriot for AFHS. The event ended up being a spectacular success, one that students can’t wait to see again next year.
