The AFHS Ballot Box

Apex Friendship has a regular cornucopia when it comes to clubs. From Mu Alpha Theta to the Refugee Awareness Club, opportunities abound for everyone at AFHS. Soon, though, clubs will begin to turn to the forthcoming year, electing — or re-electing — new leaders.

Student Council

Student Council begins their election season on April 29th, when applications to run for positions become due. Candidates may campaign from May 3rd through May 18th, and students will vote in their homerooms for their classes’ President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Each class will also have three representatives, who are not voted on by students. Mrs. Wooten, one of the StuCo advisors, said that a main goal for the next year will be to revive the Homecoming Dance.

Speech and Debate Club

Speech and Debate, one of the largest activity based clubs in the school, with over 75 active members, held officer elections on April 5th and will hold elections for discipline chairs on April 28th. The President for the 2022-2023 school year will be Colin Tierney. Jessica Lee retains the Vice Presidency and Edwin Lozada will continue as Secretary. Additionally, Samantha St. Lawrence has been elected the next treasurer, and finally, Elizabeth Matson will be the next Historian.

National Honors Society

NHS elections took place January 5th, with Veda Kolloru being elected President, Maggie West being elected to the VP spot, and Raquel Grant becoming Secretary. The new Treasurer will be Willow Jones, with the Historian being Elbetel Gulilat. Over the last year, NHS has done great work expanding opportunities to gain service hours, including working on campus beautification projects. According to Kolloru, NHS plans to continue that trend, along with a focus on integrating new members into the organization.

Key Club

Key Club, one of Apex Friendship’s largest service organizations, elected their officers and class representatives recently. The next officers of Key Club consist of President Ava Campbell, and the new VP, Aimee Kim. Election winners included Secretary Emma Bridgerman, the Treasurer, Suhas Puttoju, and the Editor, Eliza Olive, along with the next group of class representatives.

Congratulations to all the club officers appointed for the coming school year. For students interested in joining any of these clubs in the future, be on a lookout for club fairs and events at the beginning of next year.
