Class of 2023 To-Do List

As senior year approaches, the class of 2023 still has time to prepare for next year. Check off the to-do list to get ahead and avoid procrastination.

  • Confirm senior year schedules

For students planning on participating in the Wake Tech program or requesting late arrival/early dismissal, remember to email counselors soon to secure that opportunity. Also go through senior classes again to be sure the schedule balances rigor and relaxation in a beneficial way.

  • Sign up and study for the ACT/SAT

Looking to boost your scores and impress future colleges? The next ACT will be on June 11, and the next SATs will be on May 7 and June 4. Check out the Student Services website for registration information.

  • Ask for teacher recommendations

Mr. Stapleton’s countdown has begun, so that means the juniors need to start asking teachers for recommendations. Polite emails can be a good place to start, but don’t forget to follow up with teachers throughout the application process to remind them when their letters need to be finished by. And don’t forget to say thank you with a nice gift or card.

  • Look for summer programs, internships, and jobs

The student services has a mile long list of opportunities, and when it comes to getting a summer job, the sooner the hunt begins the better. Finding a summer job can be a great way to make money to put into savings before college, and internships look great on applications. Try to secure those opportunities before the end of the year so summer planning can be a breeze.

  • College visits

Applications will be happening soon, so figure out where to send them fast. Touring college campuses can provide a unique opportunity for students to really understand what the college experience could be like, and influence their decisions.

  • Create a CommonApp account

Essays have been released for the 2022 application cycle, so juniors can begin brainstorming for their personal pieces in order to get ahead on their applications.
