Growing up, many students loved watching Disney shows like Jessie, Girl Meets World, and Austin & Ally. Some students may remember the spooky Halloween episodes Disney loved to surprise fans with, combining two hilarious sitcoms to create one epic event called Monstober.
Girl Meets World of Terror 2
Joel Zwick, director of Girl Meets World, hit Disney Channel fans with a “spooktacular” Halloween themed episode, Girl Meets World of Terror 2, back in 2015. The show, known for being the spin off of Boy Meets World, follows teen best friends Riley Matthews and Maya Hart, who take on countless obstacles and challenges that life throws at them. According to Insider, for the special themed episode Riley and Maya discover a ghost haunting Riley’s infamous bay window. The ghost turned out to be a flapper from the 1920’s. Other than being Halloween themed, the show also had a crossover with Austin & Ally’s two main characters, Ally Dawson and Austin Moon, who join the girls on their journey to help the flapper. The episode can be found on Girl Meets World, on the 18th episode of the second season.
Haunt-a-Rooney
In mid 2013, Disney Channel introduced fans to a show that helped shape the image of the platform to this day. Liv and Maddie stars Dove Cameron, who played the lead protagonist and daughter of Maleficent, Mal, in Descendants. The show follows two twins, Liv and Maddie, who could not be any more different from each other. They both go through crazy life experiences, all while trying to find out who they want to be as a person. Two years after the first episode aired, the directors decided to join in on the famous Halloween crossovers between the Disney shows, in the episode Haunt-a-Rooney. Liv and her brother, Joey, head to New York City for a costume festival, where they meet Cyd and Shelby, two best friends from another Disney show, Best Friends Whenever. Haunt-a-Rooney can be watched on Liv and Maddie on season three, episode four.
The Ghostess with the Mostest
As perhaps one of the most iconic Disney Channel shows to ever exist, Jessie has humor, romance, and of course, a nontraditional family . The hit show stars Debby Ryan, playing Jessie Prescott, a broke wannabe-actress who gets a job babysitting four filthy rich children. Jessie not only finds herself in situations involving evil twins, awkward exes, and more, but finds herself while being a nanny. The final season of Jessie contained a bomb Halloween themed episode, with guest appearances from the stars of Disney’s I Didn’t Do It. In the episode, a ghost haunts the Ross kids. Jessie experiences an adventure on her own, as she attends a masquerade ball and finds the man of her dreams. The episode ends with a surprising twist and fulfills the longing for a homey Halloween episode.
Camp Kiki-Slasher
Since fans couldn’t get enough of the Ross kids, Disney continued on their legacy by creating a Jessie spinoff, Bunk’d. The show follows Emma, Zuri, Ravi, and a few new friends while they make memories at their summer camp, Camp Kikiwaka. It only felt fitting to make a perfect day at Camp Kikiwaka to go terribly wrong for a fun-filled Halloween episode. The campers find themselves disappearing one by one, with the new chef labeled as a prime suspect. Turns out, in the spirit of Halloween, the campers created a bloody scene to pull a prank on the oblivious Ravi Ross. The spinoff has five seasons, with its final episode released in 2021.
Looking back at the good old days brings a sense of nostalgia in this Halloween season. Make sure to take a break from school and work, and remember to turn on the TV to rewatch some old but iconic Disney TV shows.
