Many people enjoy Halloween; some may even count the days until they get to dress up in crazy clothes without getting judged for it. Sports athletes also take Halloween as a time to celebrate and have fun while wearing costumes that would shock people if seen on the street.
LeBron James, who plays small forward and shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, has no doubt made an impressive mark in sports history. Not only does he play a serious role in the industry, he also takes Halloween to a whole new level. In 2017, James went all out when he surprised fans with a picture on his Instagram in his Pennywise outfit with red balloons in the background. In 2019, LeBron took a different approach and dressed as Edward Scissorhands.
The world got introduced to Thanos in 2018, when he became one of the most popular villains in Marvel history. Dwight Howard, who also plays for the Lakers, decided to dress as the villain, decking himself out in the gold costume, showing off the Infinity Stones and purple mask. When asked about Thanos, Howard said, “He was able to understand that in order for him to complete his mission, he had to get rid of his emotions, and that’s the hardest thing that we all face.” Not only did Howard rock the costume, but he also bought a purple car in honor of Thanos. Some may argue that it may be extreme, but Howard focuses on having fun and spreading the Halloween spirit.
Many know Stephen Curry as the phenomenal shooter who makes baskets from half court, but fans also remember the scary and silly costumes he wore for Halloween. In 2018, he showed up to a Golden State Warriors game riding a small red tricycle, surprising Draymond Green and their fellow teammates with his Jigsaw costume. He continued to ride through the tunnel alongside his team, stopping to fist bump and high five the coaches and staff. Although he took a “scary” approach in 2018, the next year he decided to join his family in a themed costume, taking the role of Buzz Lightyear.
Halloween holds many mirthful and memorable moments to look back at throughout the years. Celebrities such as LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and Stephen Curry show spooky spirit to remember for years to come.
