Wholesome Hobbies

Today, society encourages teenagers to let their creativity help them shine and blossom into unique, vibrant individuals. Finding hobbies brings out artistry and ingenuity, allowing a person to celebrate their individuality. Maybe trying out some of those wholesome pastimes can help bored high school students romanticize ordinary days.

Scrapbook Journaling

Find some construction paper and pull out the glue, because scrapbooking can really boost those creative juices. Whether jotting down daily journal entries or compiling spontaneous works of art, this type of journaling contributes to personal aesthetic, and may uncover a hidden knack for artistic expression. Some fun scrapbooking supplies can include assorted stickers, multitudes of pens, and stylized photographs.

Photography

Grab a phone, grab a camera, grab a 20-year-old Polaroid and take the time to stop and take pictures of the metaphorical roses. Not only does photography spark imagination and creativity, but it allows for stress relief and a deeper connection to life. As stated in an article published by Mississippi State University, titled 5 Amazing Benefits of Photography, photography captures “personal communication” and “helps us see things in a different light.”

Writing Poetry

Poetry doesn’t have to be about birds in cages or how leaves look in the fall. It doesn’t have to rhyme, allude to the meaning of life, or be comprehensive at all. In its simplest form, poetry just means an expression of thought, which can be a fun way to document interpretations of life. Jot down emotions in a way that doesn’t have to be perfect, and scribble lines for the sake of scratching up the paper.

Being different doesn’t automatically make a person happy. However, doing unique activities makes life a little more interesting. And who knows? Maybe a new hobby could evolve into a lifelong passion.
