A night of mystical enchantment seems to be in the cards for the upperclassmen of AFHS as prom approaches. Classy dinners, fabulous outfits, and glittering lights will surely be a part of an evening to remember this coming May.
None of this magical glamor would be possible without the people who organize it. Jenna Soe (11), a member of the prom committee, will be on a team of 15 people in charge of constructing and dismantling the event, and have been working hard to brainstorm ideas to make prom memorable. Soe clues readers in on what her team has been putting together, saying, “students should expect, since its enchanted forest…greenery, lights, something magical, majestic, almost fairytale and dreamlike.”
As far as outfits go, prom trends have taken a whimsical tone this year. Soe agrees, saying, “gold is super in, I feel like pastels would be so gorgeous…something shimmery would be amazing under the enchanted forest lights.” For anyone confused on what to look for in a gown, Promgirl has some tips on how to dress in a flattering way. Online shopping has recently taken center stage as well, with stores like David’s Bridal, Nordstrom, and even Amazon providing high schoolers with a dress-shopping experience from the comfort of their own homes. For tuxedos, Men’s Wearhouse and Macy’s offer some stylish options. Soe encourages students to not feel constrained to these trends though, saying, “wear whatever you want, everyone will look good on that night.”
For many prom-goers, the night won’t start at the hotel. Visit Raleigh has some recommendations on where to go to dinner beforehand, with the list including Sitti, 42nd St. Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill, and Second Empire Restaurant & Tavern. Another option, if going with friends, could be a progressive dinner, which means a few people in the party offer to host a certain course of the meal and the group goes between houses to eat. For students who don’t want the party to be over when prom ends, Seventeen recommends doing karaoke, going to a skating rink, or having a sleepover when the event ends.
For students who can’t wait to get their hands on a ticket to this incredible event, check out the GoFAN link on the school website to purchase them. Buy them quick, because the price will soon rise. The school website has more information on permission and guest forms, as well as protocols for the auspicious event. Soe leaves hopeful students with a lighthearted message: “Be safe, have fun, look good, bring a cute date!”
