Think of any long-awaited senior year rite of passage. What comes to mind? The most common would likely be graduation, senior ditch day, and, of course, senior prom. Countless teenagers have been patiently waiting for their day to shine, thinking about the clothes they will wear, people they will invite, and fun they will have. Seniors have seen friends and siblings enjoy the one night that revolves around them, celebrating how far they have come surrounded by those that have gotten them this far.
The anticipation of attending prom night also serves as motivation for those with senioritis, making them hold on a bit longer to dance the night away and relish in the end of high school and the beginning of a new chapter. And yet, all these dreams vanished before the senior class’s eyes as the announcement that prom would be canceled reached Apex Friendship. It didn’t take long for parents of disappointed teens to rally together and come up with an alternative plan. If prom would be canceled, they would have to bring it back.
Introducing the parent-sponsored 2021 private prom. AFHS seniors will have the opportunity invite a date from any other high school, or one that has graduated, provided they are under 21 years old. As for how this new prom came into existence, it all began with a few posts from upset parents, frustrated that their seniors would be deprived of their prom. While the reason for why the prom had been canceled remains valid and understandable, missing out on one of the most treasured memories that can be attained throughout high school will be simply unacceptable to many teens. What began as a simple suggestion on a senior parent forum has grown into the complete prom experience, with a stunning reserved venue and set date.
Since this prom will be separated from WCPSS, the details will be up to the parents of senior students. As for where it will take place, simply follow the bright hanging lights and the soft sound of the nearby lake to a charming rustic farmhouse located in Shady Wagon Farm in New Hill, about 15 minutes from AFHS. On May 29th from 6:30-11:00 pm, the senior class will be able to dance the night away and listen to a DJ, take pictures with a photo booth, and celebrate the end of high school together with the 2021 Under The Stars prom. But buy a ticket soon, because the end date for getting tickets will be April 28th and they have been going fast. Since this year will be quite an anomaly with COVID-created chaos, safety regulations will be in place for this prom night to ensure an enjoyable and safe night for everyone. Masks will be worn at all times and the maximum capacity for the venue cannot exceed 200 people, so think about buying a ticket sooner rather than later. Following the simple safety guidelines will make it so that this private prom will both protect and delight those attending. Purchase tickets here as the price has just been reduced to $50 to experience an unforgettable night of laughing, dancing, and overall enjoyment of the event that only comes once in a lifetime — senior prom.
