Patriots' Homecoming

This Homecoming week, AFHS welcomes everyone back with open arms. After the whirlwind of a hectic, yet somber past two years, it feels like many students never fully got the chance to have a “real” high school experience. Homecoming exists to remedy that. Many students think of homecoming as a dance similar to prom, the big football game against our rival, and a week of dressing up to show school spirit! Unfortunately, worries about COVID-19 canceled the dance, but unique daily themes and the football game against Holly Springs will still be happening.

Monochrome Monday

Think Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala this year. Monday saw many students dress from head-to-toe in one color. Students favored simple colors like black or white, but others were resplendent in bright colors, some even temporarily dying their hair or wearing a wig.

Twin Day

Twin Day presented the perfect opportunity for friends to express their style together. A selection of many ideas appeared, and those who communicated accordingly and exuded confidence had the most success. Patriots wore simple color combinations, along with friend groups in patterned pajama pants.

Letter Day

One of the more creative spirit week events, letter day had students showing up dressed like any character or object that began with the first initial of their first name. While this was definitely one of the more challenging spirit week events, students showed off their art skills and imaginative designs. Disney characters, cute animals, and fun foods appeared as some of the popular choices on this interpretive and enjoyable day.

Aliens vs. Cowboys

A less obvious theme, aliens vs. cowboys seems more complex than it might appear. Most students at AFHS took it quite literally, with some showing up in plaid, cowboy hats and boots, and bandanas. Others, going the alien way, dressed up in “alien” green with headbands with antennae. The whole day included bizarre yet fun costumes.

Pat Out!

The most patriotic day of the week, students showed up to school wearing some rendition of red, white, and blue. After school, clubs like Speech and Debate and the Dance Team showed up in floats and decked out vehicles, to the great cheers of the student body. The evening ended with the home football game against Holly Springs, where all dressed in patriotic colors and celebrated the start of a new school year and a promising homecoming.
