Coping With Quarantine

Boredom: an overlooked effect of the pandemic-related lockdowns. Quarantine has required everyone to stay inside, keeping the ability to have fun outside and hang out with friends to a minimum. Fortunately, it remains possible to beat boredom and enjoy life to the fullest while still staying safe.

One of the best ways to stay busy during quarantine would be hobbies. Taking an interest in new activities or pastimes can definitely distract from the boredom that comes with quarantine. For example, learn a new instrument. Learning a new instrument can feed the brain and improve memory. Along with the ability to play a new instrument, cognitive strength can be easily gained from this hobby. For those who already play music, this would be a perfect time to hone in and sharpen the skills needed for mastering those music skills. Remember, practice makes progress.

Some people have entertained themselves this year by discovering a new found love for video games, with one of the most popular being a game called Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In the game, the player, a human villager, lives on an island with anthropomorphic animals. While in reality one can be holed up in their bedroom, this game gives players the opportunity to go fishing, catch bugs, relax by the sea and even find dinosaur bones. Video games can help others to escape the boredom and feeling of being trapped indoors that can come with quarantine.

A big problem caused by the pandemic would be the closing of gyms. Many people used to go to the gym to relieve stress through exercise or just simply to work out, but with the quarantine, few people have the ability to go to gyms anymore. There exist ways to get over this, however. Though many people say that they simply do not have work out equipment at home to use, they couldn't be more wrong. No weights? Just use a hefty candle or a thick book. Apart from that, nothing should stop a person from going on a traditional run around the neighborhood.

There exist many activities that one can do in order to not feel bored in quarantine, whether it be picking up a new instrument, exploring a new world through a video game, or creating a DIY home gym.
