School sports and clubs have finally made a comeback! Despite the pandemic limitations Dustin Veach, the senior starting quarterback for AFHS’s football team, continues to push forward and do what he knows how to do best: play football. Dustin reflected and reminisced about his past, and talked about his exciting future.
Veach, as the quarterback, has a very important role on the varsity football team. When asked about his duties and responsibilities, Veach says, “My job is to make sure everyone gets the play, understands their job, and makes sure we’re in the best position to run the play called.” Not only does he help lead the team, but he also makes split second decisions in order for the best possible outcome; of course the touchdown remains the main goal, but he also makes sure to be emotionally attuned with his teammates, encouraging them to work as a unit.
With senior year flying by, Veach contemplates his options, thinking about potential colleges and plans for his future. Several schools that have caught his attention, like Princeton, Barton, and Windgate. Veach hopes to go to a college where he can play football, major in sports medicine and possibly become a physical therapist or neurologist.
An essential part to a team is having a leader. Adam Sanders, the coach of the team, states, Veach is a “very intelligent leader and does a great job having the team rally around him towards our collective goals.” An important part of being a leader is character. Veach has a great character as his fellow teammate Jake Johnson says he’s a “great leader and leads by example. Has great character and pushes himself and everyone around him every single day.”
Overall, Dustin Veach has some choices to make about his future. Whether he decides to explore sports medicine or neurology, commits to an Ivy League school, or plays Division 1 or 2 football, he has what it takes to do anything he sets his mind to. His fellow teammates and coach had nothing but great things to say about him, all of which revolved around him being an amazing leader, teammate, and person.
